The ArabNet Case Study Challenge is for those who have the best campaigns that have leveraged technology and new media, and can tell the story of how they promoted a brand or service using any or all of online ads, video, mobile, microsite, newsletters, email, social media and other tools.

all interested individuals and agencies should complete the online application form, outlining their campaign’s objectives, strategies, implementation plan, results and lessons learned. Six finalists will be chosen by ArabNet and its panel of ACSC Judges, drawn from top global agencies, brands, and publishers, based on the following criteria: originality, effectiveness, impact and engagement.

Deadline for application is March 8.

On last Saturday 8′th of May i attended TEDxCairo an independent TED event organized by some great egyptian youth,

who really managed to give a well organized ,inspiring and beautiful day ,and here is my report

First there was an Introduction of the day by Khaled abou el Naga -who presented all the speakers all the day-, talked about the talks and the schedule and some rules of the day

• The passion of Change and believing in your dreams
• creative conceptualization ,Some small things can make a difference and how creative ideas can look like using a tomato in a fruit salad
• The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams

Experiential learning As a Vehicle for Change by Seif Abou Zeid

• One of the talks i liked, he Talked about learning by the experience, by involving students or the learning people in the learning process
• and how he tried it with people and was proved to be many times better than the widely used “one way learning” technique
• Seif travels with groups of people to many countries like :Thailand and let them learn new things by experiencing new adventures like climbing giant trees and climbing down a water fall ,
• To lead others you have to conquer your fear and lead yourself first

• بداخل كل منا جزء مجهول ربما يؤدي روتين الحياة و الحرص على عدم الخروج عن نمط الحياة الذي يفرضه المجتمع إلى اختفاء هذا الجزء و اختفاء كثير من الابداع , الابتكار و المرح معه

The Discomfort of our comfort Zone by Wael Fakharany

I Just loved this Talk alot , Mr. Wael who is Regional Manager Egypt, and North Africa at Google

talked about his journey of loving to be happily feeling discomfort !

• We can be in 2 zones : the Comfort, warm zone where WE can relax ,have less problems but not too much into achieving Our Dreams , Or The Discomfort ,Cold Zone  Where We face troubles, do unordinary things , people around think We are mad to do such things but We feel happy to have the passion of learning new things and achieving our dreams
• Mr. wael chose the discomfort zone during his work journey even some of his choices looked non-sense for people around him
• He asked ” Why are we all feeling comfort while we live in a Discomfort Countries here ?!”

• Amr Ramadan is the Co-founder of Vimov a software development company based in Egypt , he works on new applications

for iPhone, Android and iPad , like iSimulate for iPhone and Weather HD One of the stunning widgets for iPad .

• The talk was more like an interview , he was asked some questions by Khaled abou el Naga
• The same Concept you hear all the day is Said : i left my work, believed in my dream to make a big thing although every one thought it’s a crazy thing to do !

Improving Lives with Emotionally Intelligent Technologies by Dr.Rana el Kaliouby :

The time of WoW , i very much enjoyed her talk , Dr. Rana could transmit the passion to me and i think to every one there

• Dr.Rana is a research scientist in MIT media Lab, she is working on applications to help autistic people to communicate with the world
• she showed us a Mind Reader API that helps to express and communicate people’s mental states, including emotions, thoughts, and desires , and she tried it on Khaled abou el Naga as you will see in the videos
• Dr. Rana talked about an autistic blogger that her blog is followed by many people all over the world , i don’t remember the name of the blogger ,if you do please comment it
• one of the quotes i liked is that you must think out of the stereotype way

Finding Plenty in Nothingness by Ibrahim El Batout :

• Ibrahim El Batout is a film director and was with his camera in some wars in the world and hard situation here in egypt

capturing and filming a real life drama, he is the director of the awesome film ” Ain Shams”

• he talked about some experiences he had in his journey and how in the middle of wars , disasters, diseases we can find small good things and moments
• was emotionally impressed by his always fear to get a call that his Mother or father passed away while he was travelling away

Learning to Walk On Shifting Sands by Dr. Erma Manoncourt :

Was very inspired by her passion and spirit when talking about helping children every where to have a better life through the volunteer action from the ideas she mentioned:

• always think outside the box
• you must work with people who have some fixed wrong habits, traditions or thought in order to help them like the FGM thing in egypt and convince them that changing those habits is a good thing.
• that made me think about volunteer to work with the UNESCO in egypt.

Opportunity Beyond Challenge by Dr.Ahmed Darwish :

he talked about :

• Always see the good thing in the problem or the challenge
• you have always to set your priorities
• always find time for doing small things even when you are busy

he talked about his experience as minister in the government in working on enhancing the technology part in the government’s work

but i just hope that we will see a reflect of this on the egyptian citizen’s daily life and his suffer with routine and bureaucracy everywhere 

Last thursday i was painting kid’s faces in Gzeera club with Resala in the Resala Carnival for Orphan’s Day, i totally very enjoyed

the painting, was my first time and was worried if i can paint on kid’s faces without causing any Distortions on their faces specially that am not very much into painting  , i googled some tips for face painting and watched some tutorials on youtube then went for the mission.

if you know me in personal, you know how much i’m over loving kids every where, i believe they can get me out of any

bad mood whatever am feeling they make me feel happy once i see a kid’s smile

so i sat there painting Butterflies, Cats, tigers’ faces for about four hours and really had fun,most boys wanted to get

spider man’s and tiger’s faces and most girls wanted the cats and butterflies except Rana that insisted to have a wild face with blood on it and refused all the trials to paint her a butterfly

all the girls didn’t show their smile before we put a  lip-stick for them, girls are always girls

but all kids were happy once we put alot of glitter on their faces and i don’t know why they love glitter that much but actually i loved to put glitter as much as i can to hide all the mistakes i made with it

not to mention that each kid that chose a kinda complicated face , i told him that it’s not good and convinced him with another

face that is much easier for me to paint , LOL

If you are a mom i think you should learn face painting it’s really easy and you can do it in kids’ birthdays, will be much fun .

بعد جولة البرادعي في المنصورة توجه لمنية سمنود و هناك قابل الناس ,و رغم أنها المفترض تكون زيارة عادية إلا انها تحولت لمؤتمر جماهيري

العدد الكبير اللي كان موجود كان أغلبه ناس بسيطة لكن فاهمة و كل أسألتهم كانت قوية جدا

• اﻷطفال كانوا عارفين البرادعي
• في ناس كانت بتشاور على د/ محمد البرادعي و تقول “دا البرادعي بتاع التغيير” مش مرشح للرئاسة, و دا المطلوب
• الناس البسيطة اللي وقعت على البيان ماكانتش خايفة و عارفه انهم بيعملوا حاجة قانونية
• في سيدة من منية سمنود سألتني أنا وَقَعت بيوزعوا الفلوس فين بقى ؟ 

اليوم كان مصدر أمل كبير لشباب الجمعية الوطنية للتغيير و لكل الناس

بدون مبالغة كان من أحسن أيام حياتي

P.S.هل وَقعت على بيان الجمعية الوطنية للتغيير أو ناوي توَقع ؟

isreal and it’s Arab friends are with their seige of Gaza.

Gaza suffers a very bad lake of food, medicines and every thing , and things gonna be worse after the wall that Egypt is building

on the borders with Gaza right now !

Man Even if tunnels will continue playing the role of keeping Gaza’s people alive, but what a stupid message we are sending

to palestininas by building this wall like if we don’t care at all !!

Also please don’t forget that it has been a year since the last horrible israeli war on

Gaza that started on the 27′th of December 2008 and that the people there sure still didn’t get rid of it’s effects .

Please support the Gaza Freedom March that will start tomorrow from cairo ,if people from all over the world feel the

problem of Gaza ,then you as an arab should support your arab and muslims brothers as well !

1-first school day i remember my self laughing while all the other kids were in tears calling for

their Mothers .

2- Days in nanna’s (grandmother ) apartment in cairo during holidays with relatives.

3- my 15′th Birthday.

5- all my relatives’ weddings.

6- WordCamp Egypt 2009.

1- The Day my brother was born -i was four years old- but remember this very well .

2- The day when grandfather passed away in 1997.

3- Days i spent with my 3 years old brother with our neighbours in Riyadh while our parents were in Al-Haj.

4- when dad bought me my first PC that was alot of years ago but i remember that i was very happy.

5- almost all of eid’s nights i spent in Teta’s house (my grandmother) with my relatives

6- First college day it was from the worst days and i couldn’t imagine i’m going to spend years in this faculty

7- First year in college that i consider a year that changed alot in my life as my parents and brother were in kuwait

and i was living with grandmother in Mansourah and had alot  of responsibilities

8- First CAT-scope i attended in 2007

1- Make an OS
2-Make something useful for the Muslims and the world

-Things i need to give up : wasting time ,being a shopaholic ,delaying any work

-Places i wish to visit incha’ Allah : Al-Madinah, Turkey , Cannes, Maldives , Cordoba ,Venice and Ismailya

- Something i learnt after a suffer :

people that are not with me ,are not against me too.

- Something i believe in : always do the right thing and Allah will lead u to success and happiness

Scmp which stands for:  Scalable Community Messaging Platform ,is a platform that

holds a variety of services that are sharing and integrating the same resources.

One of theses services is chat service that we managed to have it working -only yesterday-on the first sprint of the project .

But actually i’m writing this post to talk about what i loved in SCMP and what i learned from working in such project

even if my contributions were not big enough but what i learned really worth sharing:

1-I Can  Code ! : yes am really happy with this ,as i was like alot of people who love programming

learn new things from now and then ,study programming languages,but also couldn’t  code

or let’s say didn’t know from where is the starting point for programming so being able to write

a test code -even if it’s easy- and managing to understand the code in a huge system like SCMP is a very nice way to go for me !

Note:by “coding”  i don’t mean being a code writer but being a programmer.

2-Live coding gatherings : this is the part i really liked alot,to be with a group of smart people sharing ideas for hours

-or even listening to them- was a very inspiring and useful thing .

3-Team Work : with a team led by a girl like :Amal – who i consider a java geek – ,team working was awesome!

each one in the team has a task and whatever can help him to do it-books and Tutorials-and if he fails in any part

he asks the leader for help untill he manages his task well (and all thanks goes to Amal).

4-Scrum : in SCMP we had scrum ,we had online meetings to scrum ,so we have to manage our tasks

as we’ll be asked by the manager about what we have done ,discuss the problems we faced ,and take  new tasks to do .

-SCMP is now working, we are preparing for the alpha release .

I really learned alot from this project and had a great time and will continue working in it ISA

and i have to Thank Eng.Ahmed Soliman the owner of SCMP who helped us alot .
